Age is often seen as a reason to slow down, but one 61-year-old woman from Pune has proved otherwise. What began as a doctor’s warning soon turned into a life-changing routine
A year later, her fitness journey is inspiring many on social media. Shared by her son on Instagram, the story reveals how regular exercise helped her lose 18 kg and, according to him, reverse her pre-diabetic condition
The video was posted by Harish Thakur, who said convincing his mother to start going to the gym was not easy. However, once she made fitness a part of her daily routine, there was no looking back. He shared the clip with the caption, “My 61 year old mother and her addiction to gym.”
Recalling how her journey began, Harish said, “We are on our way to the clinic, and she has brought her gym bag along. This is my mother, and she is 61 years old. Last year, when the doctor told her that she was in the pre-diabeticstage, she started going to the gym with me only after a lot of persuasion.”
According to Harish, the results were visible within a year. His mother not only lost 18 kg but also, he said, was no longer pre-diabetic. But it was what happened recently that made him realise just how committed she had become to her fitness routine
Despite not feeling well and dealing with blood pressure issues, she refused to skip her workout. Instead, she carried her gym bag along and insisted on exercising after her doctor’s appointment
Sharing the incident, Harish said, “After losing 18 kg in a year, she is no longer pre-diabetic, but now she seems to have developed a new obsession. She has not been feeling well at all today and has been experiencing blood pressure issues since yesterday. I told her that we should skip the gym today, but she insisted that we go after visiting the clinic. She refused to listen, so we went to the gym after the appointment and worked out for an entire hour. I think she has now developed a new addiction to going to the gym.”

Several users also appreciated Harish for encouraging his mother to take the first step towards better health
The comments section soon filled with messages of admiration. One user commented, “And here we are, throwing tantrums in our 30s. Very inspiring.”
Another wrote, “Huge respect for aunty.” One said, “May everyone develop this kind of addiction.”
