Darnell Washington went viral for his weight during the 2025 NFL season

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ tight end apparently weighed as much as 311 pounds as the season went along
He’s always been a big fella, both a punishing blocker as well as a player who is tough to bring down when he has the football in his hands
But 311 pounds? That’s about as heavy as anyone had ever heard of a tight end being in the NFL
It sounds like Washington won’t weigh that much in 2026, though
The Steelers are set to have weight goals and fines this season
“Definitely with the new staff and these new weight fines this year, for sure gotta work on that,” Washington said earlier this offseason on Cam Heyward’s podcast. “And for sure gonna have to get down.”

Washington also explained what had contributed to his rising weight
“I just think my body filled out more,” Washington said. “I could be for sure wrong, but I love food. Everybody got an addiction. Mine is video games and food. So that’s something I for sure gotta work on.”

The reality is that his size can be a weapon, as long as it’s good weight
