The Diet Rule Taylor Swift Followed Early In Her Career

By Shreya MaliJuly 25, 2026 3:30 pm EST

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce aren’t just compatible in terms of their personalities and their unyielding commitment to their careers. They have also been on the same page about smaller things, like their diet for quite some time. Speaking to <a href="https://www.webmd.com/women/features/cm/taylor-swifts-rules-for-healthy-living” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>WebMD in November 2010, Taylor Swift shared what you would typically find in her daily diet. During the week, the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker preferred to keep things light, and filled her plate with things like salads, yogurts, and sandwiches. Although Swift avoided sugary drinks during the week, she ultimately had no desire to have strict restrictions on her food intake.

“It’s nothing too regimented or crazy,” she said of her diet. “I don’t like to create too many rules where I don’t need them. We know what’s good for us, thanks to common sense.” On the weekends, Swift gave herself full permission to eat all her favorite comfort foods, including burgers and fries, ice cream, and baked goods. Her husband’s philosophy on food isn’t all that different. Speaking to Startland News in September 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s personal chef and childhood friend, Kumar Ferguson, shared that his diet was centered around “fuel for comfort, hydration, [and] nutrition.”

On a daily basis, Ferguson made Travis’ favorite food, which included steakhouse cuisine favorites, healthier so that it could fit into his nutritional requirements as a pro athlete. Additionally, in an August 2025 chat with Kansas City Magazine, Ferguson revealed that he frequently incorporated filets into the pro player’s diet since his father, Ed Kelce, cooked up some mean steaks for him through the years. To switch things up, Travis’ personal chef made him dishes like deep-fried Australian lobster tails with a yum yum sauce and Hawaiian wings.

This philosophy on eating may have health benefits

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce appear to be following many principles of intuitive eating instead of sticking to rigid diets that leave no room for comfort or fun foods. Chatting with Cleveland Clinic, psychologist Susan Albers explained that intuitive eating served as the antithesis of diet culture. She then detailed how the eating method motivated people to listen to their body’s satiety levels and hunger pangs instead of relying on an overly restrictive diet that wasn’t tailor-made for them.

One of the main principles of intuitive eating is that all foods can be a part of a healthy diet. Registered dietitian Jinan Banna told CNBC that Swift’s approach to eating might just work in her favor, saying, “Having a very rigid mindset is not helpful and can potentially create some problems when it comes to body image and when it comes to relationships with food.” Indeed, even studies have shown how intuitive eating can provide mental and physical health benefits.

A 2021 meta-analysis published in The International Journal of Eating Disorders analyzing 97 studies found that people who practiced intuitive eating reported better self-esteem, body image, and overall well-being. Additionally, a 2023 review published in The Journal of Complementary and Integrative Medicine found that intuitive eating was associated with a lower BMI, reduced blood pressure, and was conducive to weight maintenance. Despite all the positives, people still find themselves buying into the many myths about intuitive eating and avoiding it altogether. So, it appears that there are plenty of things that people don’t know about intuitive eating.
