    Rubels and Angels

    By Vera Wisdom-Bassey

Rubelsand Angels Food Court has expanded its presence in Lagos with the opening of a new outlet in the Oba Akran area of Ikeja, reaffirming its commitment to providing healthy, hygienic and affordable meals to Nigerians

The event attracted residents, business leaders, community representatives and guests from different walks of life, who gathered to celebrate the company’s latest expansion

The new outlet marks another milestone for the food brand, which has steadily built a reputation for quality meals and customer satisfaction since it was established seven years ago

Speaking during the event, the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rubels and Angels, Mrs. Odira Okwuagwu, urged Nigerians to embrace healthy eating by maintaining balanced diets instead of relying heavily on carbohydrates

She noted that good nutrition is essential for healthy living, stressing that meals should contain adequate proteins, vegetables and other nutrients required by the body

“People should eat well and eat right. Don’t rely only on carbohydrates. Add proteins and vegetables to your meals because a balanced diet promotes good health,” she said

Okwuagwu, who described herself as a doctor of food, noted that food has the power to either improve health or contribute to illness depending on the choices people make

“My mission is to ensure that Nigerians eat well and live healthy lives. Food can either poison you or keep you alive, so we are committed to serving meals that promote wellness,” she added

She disclosed that Rubels and Angels began as a small kitchen enterprise after she took a break from pursuing a career in the media. Encouraged by her husband, she enrolled in a culinary school before transforming her passion for cooking into a thriving business

According to her, what started with preparing meals for family members and friends has grown into a successful food business with five branches across Lagos State

Also speaking at the ceremony, the company’s Group Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Apeh Gideon, advised Nigerians to prioritise hygienic and nutritious meals, noting that a person’s health is largely influenced by the quality of food consumed

He explained that excessive consumption of sugar and unhealthy fats could negatively affect the body, urging customers to cultivate healthy eating habits and adequate rest as part of a healthy lifestyle

“Our bodies reflect what we eat. If you consume too much sugar or unhealthy fats, your body will respond accordingly. We encourage everyone to eat healthy, stay healthy and get enough rest,” he said

Gideon explained that the company’s vision extends beyond serving meals to introducing innovation within the food industry. He noted that Rubels and Angels offers a wide range of dishes, including local delicacies, continental cuisine and seafood, while constantly improving its menu to satisfy diverse customer preferences

According to him, every meal prepared by the company passes through strict quality assurance procedures before reaching customers. He revealed that the organisation operates a comprehensive food safety and quality control system designed to guarantee hygiene and consistency

He added that the company follows internationally recognised food safety guidelines throughout its operations to ensure that meals meet high standards before they are served

Beyond food quality, he said the company values peaceful coexistence with host communities. He disclosed that before establishing the Ikeja outlet, the management engaged traditional leaders, community representatives and youth groups to foster cordial relationships and ensure a peaceful business environment

“We believe in working directly with our host communities. We have met with the Oba of Oba Akran and other stakeholders because we want to maintain peace wherever we operate,” he said

He further stated that while the organisation encourages civic responsibility among its employees, it does not impose political preferences on staff members during elections

The founder’s husband, Mr. Fidelis Okwuagwu, a farmer and chef, described the food business as one of the most demanding ventures, praising his wife’s dedication and resilience

According to him, operating a restaurant requires daily supervision and long working hours, often extending into the evening. He said understanding the demands of the business had strengthened their partnership, with both of them supporting each other to ensure its continued success

Also speaking, the Managing Director, Mr. Nmesoma Agwu, attributed the company’s steady growth to its commitment to quality service, affordable pricing and customer satisfaction

He acknowledged that the business had faced challenges, ranging from funding constraints to kitchen management and quality control but said the organisation had remained focused on continuous improvement

Agwu expressed optimism that the company would expand beyond Nigeria within the next decade through strategic partnerships and increased investment

He reaffirmed the company’s belief that “food is life,” adding that Rubels and Angels would continue to deliver nutritious meals, exceptional service and innovative dining experiences to customers, while strengthening its position as one of Lagos’ emerging food brands
