Akshay Kumar has been a vegetarian for many years
Akshay Kumar has long been long been one of the most popular vegetarian stars in Bollywood. He has also been a fitness icons, known for his chiselled body and high energy levels that defied age. He had eschewed eating meats and opting for an entirely plant based diet. In a 2020 interview with Times Of India, chef and lifestyle expert Mohit Savargaonkar, Co-Founder, Pod Supply, who takes care of the superstar’s diet, revealed that the ‘Namastey London’ actor followed a completely sattvic diet, marked by austerity and restraint. His diet had no spices, onion and garlic. He also revealed what the actor ate throughout the day.

    A Light Breakfast

For breakfast, Akshay often has chia pudding with berries or avocado on toast.

    An International Lunch & Dinner

Savargaonkar revealed the actor often indulges in something light yet filling pumpkin tofu thai curry or rice and sauteed vegetables. His diet steers clear of foods that trigger acidity, so even being a Punjabi, he avoids foods such as rajma and chole. When he is in the mood for something sweet? “Akshay is not much of a sweet lover, but for a change we serve him Almond & Blueberry Cookies, that is nutritious and has zero fat content and he loves that mild sweetness and crunchiness,” told Mohit.Kumar turned vegetarian while shooting for the role of Lord Krisna for the 2012 satire comedy Oh My God. According to media reports, Akshay Kumar adopted a vegetarian diet after a request from his mother, who is a devoted follower of Lord Krishna. She reportedly believed that embracing the values associated with Lord Krishna also meant avoiding non-vegetarian food and encouraged her son to do the same.Although she generally stayed away from decisions related to his film career, she is said to have made an exception after learning about the movie and the role he was preparing to portray. She reportedly advised Akshay to eat only vegetarian food throughout the filming period.Reports suggest that Akshay, known for sharing a close bond with his mother, readily accepted her advice without hesitation. He is said to have respected her wishes and maintained a strictly vegetarian diet until the film’s shooting schedule was completed, following her guidance with sincerity and commitment.Add ET Logo
